Felini. Felini! So hard to compare these two films. One made him a star. Another a legend. Has there been another film director who made so brazen a gesture as to make a film about the next film he was going to make? La Dolce Vita was a smashing success. The first time I watched it I was in my basement at the end of a small film festival of Italina Neo-realist film directos. La Dolce Vita was the capstone of the festival. I had watched several famous films from the period of Italian Neo-realism and thougth I'd give La Dolce Vita a look. It was, perhaps, the highlight of my Summer. I couldn't get over the feeling it aroused in me. How it took me back to failed relationships, discredited idols and mentors, that feeling of lostness, that feeling of selling out.
If 81/2 is an intellectual journey that appeals to the mind, La Dolce Vita appeals to the senses. I like both films. I'm not done with this blog.
